He followed, looking down both ways of the road, "It's clear." Mark said, beginning to jog away from the hospital and over to a cluster of shrubs, "Do you have a family, girl?"

Alana nodded. "My mother and father..." She said quietly as she wondered what they would think of her being defective.

"Well, you're going to have to dismiss them." For a slight while, he said pulling her deeper into the bush, "Sorry."

Alana felt tears prick her eyes at the thought of never seeing her parents again but she nodded slowly. "No. Thank you... You just saved my life... Who are you?"

"Just call me Mark." He said, giving a slight glance from the edge of the thick bush before returning his attention to the girl, "What about you?" Mark asked, keeping both eyes on the sky above.

Alana hesitated a moment before saying. "... Alana..." Quietly as she looked down, grief nagging at her conscience.

Mark grabbed her arm and began running through the seemingly empty streets, occasionally looking back, "You know what they were going to do to you, right?" He said as he pulled her into the cover of a crumbling wall - parallel to a busy road.

Alana nodded sadly as she hid. "Yeah..."

"Good." Mark said before pointing to the road, "You're willing to follow me, yeah?" He asked, making sure as he crept from the shadows and inspected the streets before them.

Alana took a deep breath and nodded slowly. "Yeah..."

"Alright." He smiled, "Follow what I do, and act natural." Mark gave a slight nod before retreating from his cover and moving across the road.

Alana tried to follow what he did.

Mark turned his head to see a police car approaching, slightly hovering from the ground as a man poked his head from the window, gun in hand. Mark looked back at his accomplice before running to the other side of the road, "Run!" He said as the police car pushed through the traffic and headed toward them.

Alana gasped and ran after Mark, fear and adrenaline pounding through her veins.

The police car turned the corner they turned and followed. Mark didn't bother to look back as he ducked into a dark alleyway and jumped over a barbed wire fence - the blades ripping at his shirt.

Alana followed after him but didn't jump high enough over the fence and the barbs caught her ankle and she tumbled over with a groan of pain at her bleeding ankle.

Mark turned around and helped her to her feet without a word, before running ahead, keeping a firm hand on her grazed arm. Once they escaped this place, he'd try and patch her up - but escaping was much more important now.

Alana stumbled after him, trying to ignore the pain in her ankles.

He glanced behind him to see the police car swerve a corner and take another route. "How the hell did they find out so quickly?" He muttered as he delved into the darkest part of the alleyway and flung open a well concealed door which revealed even more darkness.

Alana stumbled up after him, panting and biting her lip at the pain in her bleeding ankles. "Where are we... going...?"

He flicked a switch which was near the door and two lights turned on after slight hesitation. "This is where I live." He said, gesturing for her to enter.

Alana slowly walked into the dimly lit room, it was a mess to say the least, it was dusty and damp and obviously not well insulated, very different from her simple normal home.

Mark gestured at a ripped apart lounge and sat on the parallel lounge from that, forming his knuckles into the shape of an arc. "How are you feeling?" He asked.

Alana sat down and took a deep breath. "A little surreal honestly, my brain can't accept that this is all happening..." She winced as she brought a hand down to her ankles.
