Kai half carried-half dragged Gandal away. She hobbled close to the building trying to keep clear of the hole.

Another shot blasted part of the building into a shower of debris. Gandal grabbed Kar and pushed her out of the way as rubble fell on him.

Kai fell to the ground and landed with a thump. She lifted her head. "Gandal!" She ran at the rubble and tried to move it.

Gandal tried to move but he was restricted by the amount of rubble which had fell on him. He couldn't let the pain get to him... he had to stay strong and get out of here - help Kai escape. He was oblivious to the numerous wounds which had opened up on his body as he began moving under the large pile, trying to escape.

Kai frantically removed the rubble that was concealing Gandal. Not long afterwards, she found his hand. She kept digging.

"Kai..." He murmured, his voice rasped as he started tasting his own blood, "Leave... Save yourself."

Kai refused. “No. We are in this together. I’m not losing more of my family.” She removed a rock from Gandal’s face and smiled. Slowly, she was retrieving her brother.

Robots began charging toward them, firing lasers at nearby rubble, the area around them erupting with fire. He smiled, extending a hand which connected with Kai's leg as he tried pulling himself free.

Kai shreaked at the sudden movement but quickly came to her senses and grabbed Gandal’s hand, releasing it from her leg and pulled him out of the rubble.

Gandal muttered a thanks before hobbling free from the pile of rubble and being dragged away by his sister, glancing back at the swarm of robots which was rapidly closing around them - each one of their weapons elevated and aimed at their weak bodies.

Kai helped her brother though the robot infested streets. She made a quick turn to the left, ramming her body into a door. It burst open and she pulled them both inside. Letting go of Gandal, she quickly shut the door and locked it behind them.

"There's too many." He said between gasps as periodic pings of pain ran up his injured legs. "We can't get out of all this - not this time around." Gandal said, a grim smile plastered on his bloody face.

"We have to try. You aren't allowed to give up on me yet big brother." she grabbed his arm and pulled it around her shoulder, helping him stand and walk into a smaller room. She sat him on the floor and locked the door behind her. It was more a closet than a room really. She placed a chair under the handle to make it harder for the robots to open the door then slumped onto the floor. Her face was covered in ash and grime.

"We can't hide forever..." He continued, moaning as the pain intensified, travelling into his spine which threw the pain all over his body, forcing him to wince with pain and his eyes to water.

"Stop moving. The pain won't be as bad if you stay still." She sat behind him. "You can lean on me if you want."

Gandal shook his head and leant against the world, staying still as he clamped his mouth shut, hearing the zoom of the spaceships above him, closing his eyes so he could partially block out the noise - focusing his mind on other things. He then opened his eyes, then stared at Kai, "How long do you think we'll survive?" He asked.

Kai shook her head sadly. "I don't know and I don't want to think about it. It makes me feel sick."

"It's something we need to think about." Closing his eyes, letting the darkness encapsulate him. Things had escalated so quickly and so abruptly. It was only a matter of seconds before the whole city was swarmed with these robotic monstrosities.

Kai shook her head again. "No we don't. So I won't think about it." She looked up at the sky. The metal ships didn't intimidate her at all. She smiled a little.

Gandal hesitated, before nodding, "How're we going to get out of this mess?" He gulped, looking back at Kai, giving a shake of his head, "We're practically Earth's last defense."
